On June 5, 2012, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a voluntary recall notice with Evenflo Inc. regarding a model of high chairs manufactured by the company, the Convertible High Chair. According to the recall notice, approximately 35,000 units of this product have been sold in the United States. The CPSC advises that use of this product must cease immediately, and explicitly prohibits reselling the recalled high chair.
The hazards presented by the Convertible High Chair include serious concerns with the activity tray on the product. According to the recall notice, “The activity tray on the high chair can unexpectedly detach and allow an unrestrained child to fall, posing a risk of injury to the child.” There have been 18 reports of tray detachment, and eight reports of children falling from the high chair and suffering injuries.
Convertible High Chairs were sold from December 2011 to June 2012 in a variety of stores across the country, including Wal-Mart and Toys “R” Us. Evenflo is offering to replace the tray on the recalled high chairs for consumers who contact the company.
